American contemporary art by Kenny Scharf

This summer, New York art collector Lio Malca presents an exhibition by Kenny Scharf, one of the greatest figures in American contemporary art, at Gallery La Nave.

Who is Kenny Scharf?

Scharf is considered one of the most influential artists of our time. As an “iconoclastic portraitist of emotions”, he offers the viewer the opportunity to enter a magical and impressive space.

“Most people think that art only belongs on a wall in a gallery or museum. I think it should be everywhere”,  he says. La Nave Salinas has made a name for itself since the opening in 2015 of bringing international contemporary art to the island.

The Gallery itself

The gallery’s home is a massive stone building on the right bank of Salinas Beach with an impressive size of 700 square meters and a height of 15 meters. It was originally built in 1941 to store salt that was extracted from the surrounding salt basins.

Scharf’s exhibition is his first solo show in Spain for more than two decades. Born in Hollywood in 1958, he is considered one of the living legends of the 80s New York art scene and inventor of American pop surrealism.
